چکیده

Background and purpose The of this study is to examine the relationship between parameters a silver nanowire-based flexible pressure sensor developed measure non-nutritive sucking (NNS) performance predict nutritive status in preterm infants. Methods Preterm infants who were referred for feeding difficulty during transition period from tubal oral enrolled our study. A was used neonates. evaluator stimulated infants' lips tongue with pacifier integrated sensor, check whether had occurred. When reflex induced, it measured. characteristics subdivided into classifications according NOMAS criteria full (FOF) status. Quantitative NNS measurement state compared groups. Results comparing quantitative by characteristics, average significantly higher FOF capable group than those incomplete group. In addition, maximum normal pattern disorganized pattern. divided over range 0–3 kPa same weight assigned each item. optimal cut-off value sensitivity specificity estimate set, 1.5 yielded highest (84.62%) (67.65%) on receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. area under curve (AUC) 0.786, result statistically significant. Conclusions This presents parameter use sensor. show possible indicators that can aid predicting when their prognosis. will serve as basis future research determining newborns health conditions affect feeding.

Non-nutritive sucking evaluation in preterm newborns and the start of oral feeding: a multicenter study

OBJECTIVES The assessment of early sucking by preterm infants provides information on the ability of these infants to efficiently and safely receive nutrients via an oral route (oral feeding). To analyze the application and reliability of an instrument in assessing non-nutritive sucking that indicates a capacity for oral feeding in the routine care of different neonatal units. METHODS A multi...

Comparing the Effect of Non-nutritive Sucking and Abdominal Massage on Feeding Tolerance in Preterm Newborns

Background:Enteral feeding intolerance is a major problem in the preterm neonates. Non-nutritive sucking and abdominal massage are among the most important nutritional interventions in this regard. Aim: This study aimed to compare the effect of non-nutritive sucking and abdominal massage on feeding tolerance in the preterm newborns. Method: This clinical trial was conducted on 52 preterm neonat...

The Effect of Non-nutritive Sucking on Mother's Finger on Feeding Tolerance and Attainment of Independent Oral Feeding in Preterm Infants: A Randomized Trial

Background Non-nutritive sucking is part of the initial development process in preterm infants that may speed up the transition from the tube to oral feeding. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of non-nutritive sucking on mother's finger on feeding tolerance and attainment of independent oral feeding in preterm infants. Materials and Methods This single blind clinical trial was co...

Correlation between feeding methods, non-nutritive sucking and orofacial behaviors.

BACKGROUND The development of oral motor control depends partially on motor and sensory experiences. AIM To analyze the relationship between the duration of breastfeeding, artificial feeding and sucking habits, and of these parameters with the orofacial motor performance. METHOD Participants of this study were one hundred and seventy-six children aged 6 to 12 years. All subjects were submit...

The Effects of Pre-feeding Oral Stimulations and Non-nutritive Sucking on Physical Growth and Independent Oral Feeding of Preterm Infants

Background: Breastfeeding failures and oral feeding problems in preterm infants result in long-term health complications. In this study, therefore, we aimed to evaluate the effect of oral stimulation along with non-nutritive sucking (NNS) on independent oral feeding initiation and weight gain in preterm infants. Methods: This prospective randomized clinical trial was carried out at Aliasghar Ho...
